Jean-Luc Brunel denied all allegations throughout his life and was never convicted of any crime. He died in custody in February 2022 before any trial, and the charges against him were never tested. His lawyers disputed the suicide finding. This page documents what survivors, prosecutors and the released files describe — and the fact that a court never got to weigh any of it.
The modelling agency is the most efficient recruitment instrument in this entire archive, and this is why.
It supplies a legitimate reason to approach a teenager, a legitimate reason for her to travel, a legitimate reason for a visa, and a legitimate reason for someone else to be paying for her accommodation. Every step that would otherwise look like trafficking looks instead like a career.
And the industry’s ordinary conditions did the rest. Young women, often far from home, financially dependent, told that access to powerful men is how the business works, and that complaining ends a career before it starts.
He was exposed in 1988. 60 Minutes broadcast allegations that he drugged and assaulted models. He continued working for another thirty-two years, and Epstein financed his agency sixteen years after the broadcast.
The single most consequential fact on this page is from the 2026 release. In February 2016 Brunel was negotiating to testify against Epstein in exchange for immunity, with photographic evidence prepared. Epstein found out on 3 May 2016, emailed his attorney, and the cooperation collapsed.
David Boies has said more than fifty additional girls were trafficked in the three years between that collapse and Epstein’s arrest.
Then both men died in custody before trial. Epstein in August 2019, Brunel in February 2022. Maxwell is the only person from the core network a jury has ever heard from.

Between them they held the operational knowledge of how the pipeline worked. Neither ever testified.
Brunel’s lawyers disputed the suicide finding, saying he had been preparing his defence and shown no sign of intent, and asked for an investigation into the circumstances.
Section 01
The Record
Jean-Luc Didier Henri René Brunel, born 18 September in Neuilly-sur-Seine, west of Paris.
Takes over the Paris agency founded by Swedish model Karin Mossberg. He becomes one of the most powerful scouts in European fashion, credited with discovering Christy Turlington among others.
CBS broadcasts an investigation into allegations that Brunel drugged and assaulted models. He continued working in the industry for another three decades.
In an account given to authorities in 2019 and expanded publicly in 2022, Courtney Soerensen, then 19 and modelling in Paris, said Brunel sent her to a “casting” off the Champs-Élysées with a producer called “Jeffy” and a videographer. She alleged the man she later identified as Epstein raped her while it was filmed.
Founds MC2 Model Management in New York and Miami, capitalised with approximately $1 million from Epstein. The agency later operated in Tel Aviv.
Survivors describe MC2 as the mechanism by which young women — some minors — were identified, given visas and housing, and delivered into Epstein’s orbit. Brunel appears in 51 documented flight log entries.
Per the 2026 DOJ release, Brunel entered secret negotiations to testify against Epstein in exchange for immunity — with photographic evidence prepared.
Epstein learns of the cooperation and emails his attorney Kathy Ruemmler. The cooperation collapses and Brunel goes silent. Attorney David Boies has said more than 50 additional girls were trafficked in the three years between the collapse and Epstein’s 2019 arrest.
Weeks after Epstein’s death, French prosecutors open a preliminary investigation including rape of a minor under 15.
Police search Epstein’s Paris apartment at 22 Avenue Foch, seizing two computers, USB keys, “many photographs of young and even very young women,” 30 videos dated 2011–2015, and a CD-ROM marked “CONFIDENTIAL — COMPREHENSIVE CHART” containing a spreadsheet of 62 women’s names. The seized material included roughly 4,500 emails referencing Brunel.
Detained at Charles de Gaulle airport boarding a flight to Senegal. He was not picked up at random — authorities waited until he tried to leave the country. Charged with rape of minors, sexual assault and trafficking.
Released, then re-incarcerated on a Paris court of appeal ruling.
Found hanged at La Santé prison in Paris at around 1:00am, aged 75, before any trial. His lawyers disputed the suicide finding, saying he had been actively preparing his defence and shown no signs of intent, and requested an investigation. They blamed a “media-judicial system” that had “crushed” him.
Dutch model Thysia Huisman called it a “huge disappointment.” Lawyer Anne-Claire Lejeune: “Great disappointment, great frustration that the victims won’t get justice.” The second death in custody in three years, and the second trial that never happened.
Following the DOJ release, France reopens the Brunel file and opens new investigations into other French nationals. Brunel denied all allegations throughout his life and was never convicted of any crime.
Section 02
The Cooperation That Collapsed
This is the part of the Brunel file that changes how the rest of the timeline reads, and it only became public in 2026.
February 2016. Brunel is in secret negotiations with federal prosecutors, offering to testify against Epstein in exchange for immunity. Reporting on the released files indicates he had photographic evidence ready to hand over.
3 May 2016. Epstein learns of it. He emails his attorney Kathy Ruemmler. The cooperation collapses. Brunel goes silent.
What that timing means. Epstein was arrested in July 2019. Three years and two months separate the collapse from the arrest.

If the cooperation had held, the case that was eventually brought in 2019 could have been brought in 2016 — with a cooperating witness from inside the recruitment operation, and photographs.
What is not established. Exactly why the negotiation collapsed, what Epstein or anyone acting for him did after learning of it, and whether any inducement was offered. Some accounts describe a payment; this site has not verified one and does not assert it.
What is documented is the sequence: an offer to cooperate, Epstein’s discovery of it, an email to counsel, and silence — followed by three more years of operation.
Section 03
Why the Agency Worked
This archive documents the same recruitment structure on four continents — named agencies in Kyiv contractually obliged to supply a New York agency, a Latvian contest accepting fourteen-year-olds. Brunel built the template.
What a modelling agency provides that nothing else does:
A pretext for the first approach. A stranger telling a fifteen-year-old she could be a model is not, on its face, alarming — it is the industry’s normal method of discovery.
A reason to cross a border. Visas, work permits and travel are all ordinary. The paperwork that would expose trafficking is, in this structure, the paperwork of a legitimate business.
Housing and dependency. Agency accommodation, agency advances, agency debt. A young woman in a foreign country who owes her agency money is not free to leave.
A silencing mechanism that requires no threats. The career itself. Complaining ends it.
And an explanation for proximity to powerful men — dinners, parties and introductions are the job.
The 1988 broadcast is the measure of how well it worked. Allegations that he drugged and assaulted models aired on American network television, and sixteen years later Epstein wired him a million dollars to start another agency.
Nothing stopped it because nothing was designed to. There is no regulator of modelling agencies, no licensing body with investigative power, and no rule anywhere governing who a scout may introduce a teenager to.
